Hornby R60142 OO RailRoad ZDA 45 Ton Open Squid Wagon 100080 Era 7
18.00
$

The OAA wagon could be seen as a logical progression of the open wagons of yore, they had no explicit purpose in mind upon introduction but to haul a large amount of cargo wherever was required. Introduced in 1971 with a carrying capacity of 31 tonnes the OAA wagons had drop side doors on each side for the easy loading and unloading of cargo.

The OAA wagons saw conversions and rebuilds within a few years of introduction as the railways undertook a move towards specific rolling stock for specific uses, and the need for general wagons became reduced. Many wagons would go on to enter departmental service. A small handful of the wagons are still in service, although these tend to be used as barrier vehicles in the modern era.

$

BR built 8590 unfitted iron ore tipplers. Some of these were converted to vacuum brake later, joining those built new with vacuum brake. As well as Iron ore, they were used for Sand and Chalk. Later some carried ingot moulds and their high capacity meant, during the 1980s that they were popular with civil engineers as spoil carriers.

These new models feature highly-defined moulding, crisp printing, free-running metal-tyred wheels and pocket-mounted couplers, with brake rigging in line with the wheels.

BZS 272 V/Line White and Green Stripes Z Type Carriage

The Z type carriages are an air conditioned steel passenger carriage used on the railways of Victoria, Australia. The carriages were constructed by the Victorian Railways from 1957 for use on intrastate services. For most of their service, the Z cars operated as Z sets, however, in the early 1990s most sets were broken up, with carriages merged into N sets. They thus currently run on mixed service with Z sets.

Hornby R40374 OO EWS Business Coach Pack Era 10

$

The idea of the managers train, business train or inspection saloon is far from a new one, the first examples being employed by some of the earliest of the pre-grouping railway companies. In the modern era EWS' management train is a version of this rather old fashioned idea. For much of the modern era, EWS has operated a push-pull managers train and a 'business train'.

This business train, despite its name, rarely operated as a single train with sets of coaches often being employed on extra services around the country, an example being on services laid on during major UK based sporting events and such.

The business train utilised the then rather old Mk2 coaches in a special EWS maroon livery and would be found being hauled by all manner of EWS liveried traction.

Hornby R40228 OO Caledonian Sleeper Mk2 RLO 6700
39.00
$

East Coast Sleeper Services between London and Scotland ceased in May 1988, but the Sleeper Services on the WCML from Euston remined. Responsibility for operation of the remaining Anglo-Scottish services passed within British Rail from InterCity West Coast to ScotRail in March 1995.

The 'Caledonian Sleeper' franchise was initially handed out as part of the ScotRail franchise which was won by National Express who took over the services operation in 1997. National Express continued to use BR's Mk3 sleeper coaches, hiring locomotives from Virgin Trains until March 1998, and EWS from then on. Mk2 seated carriages were added to the service in 2000 featuring First Class-style reclining seats, while the Mk3 sleeping cars were refurbished.

In 2004 the ScotRail Franchise including the 'Caledonian Sleeper' was transferred to FirstGroup with the Caledonian sleeper rolling stock being repainted in FirstGroup's corporate blue, pink and white livery. In 2014 the 'Caledonian Sleeper' became part of a separate franchise awarded to Serco who invested £100 million in new Mark 5 carriages which were introduced in April 2019, replacing the aging Mk3 stock.

The Mark 2 Coach was introduced to the British Railway in 1964. Mk2 Coaches were designed to be stronger and more resistant to corrosion than their predecessors while reducing maintenance costs. A revised painting method coincided with a switch from BR maroon and Southern Region dark green to a blue and grey livery. 1876 Mk2 Coaches were produced by BREL at Derby Litchurch Lane Works between 1963 and 1975, with many remaining in service performing departmental work and charter services. Coach 9802 was one of 11 Mk2E Open Standard coaches converted for use on the 'Caledonian Sleeper' service in 1999 to feature reclining seats.
