Hornby R60242 BR Engineering YGB Seacow DB980033 1982 - 1997

20.00 $

The design for the Fishkind-coded ‘Seacow’ wagons was based on a 1903 design by the London and South Western Railway. A typical hopper wagon would have slab sides with seven vertical ribs and three discharge chutes. These chutes were situated at the outside of each rail and in the centre. The end of the wagon featured three handwheels to control the chute doors.

A total of 128 wagons were constructed at Shildon Works in 1971. The last 28 wagons were intended for operating in the Southern Region and featured air brakes with a vacuum through pipe. Under BR TOPS, the 28 wagons were coded YGB and with the Fishkind code ‘Seacow’. Between 1981 and 1982, 251 ‘Seacow’ wagons were constructed by Shildon Works and Ashford Works.

These last batch of wagons largely followed the original 1903 design but featured different variations also. Hopper bodies were welded instead of rivetted, each vertical rib was formed of box sections instead of U-sections and there were more modern bogies. Throughout the 2000s, several ‘Seacow’ wagons were withdrawn from service and some were purchased by heritage railway companies.

The ‘Seacow’ wagon model features box sections in the vertical ribs to reflect a later variation. The hook couplings enable easier coupling of other rolling stock and locomotives on your layout. Stanchions support the wagon in an MGR Hopper style. A handbrake wheel is also featured. This model comes in a BR Engineers livery.

Includes

1x Rolling Stock Wagon

Technical Specifications

Item Length - Without Packaging (cm): 9

Item Height - Without Packaging (cm): 3

Item Width - Without Packaging (cm): 3.5

Item Weight - Without Packaging: 0.06

Item Scale: 1:76 Scale 00 Gauge

Finish: Painted

Colour: Multiple

Gauge: OO

Operator: BR

Designer: BR

Livery: BR Yellow and Grey

Minimum Curve (mm): Radius 2

Number of Parts: 1

Buffer Type: Moulded Buffers

Coupling Type: NEM Couplings

Hornby R4830A OO LNER 616 Gresley Full Brake 4247 Era 3

71.00 $

Despite losing the crown of the largest of the 'Big Four' railway companies to its main rival the LMS, the LNER is notable for having some of the most iconic designs of locomotive and coaches ever devised. Often overlooked due to the prowess of their locomotives, the coaches of the LNER were some of the most resplendent coaches for their period, rivalled only by the privately owned Pullman Coaches.

With stylings rooted in the rolling stock of the large constituent GNR, many LNER coaches were made from panelled teak giving the coaches a unique appearance. Unlike other coach designs of the same era the LNER did not paint their coaches choosing instead to simply apply wax varnish to the exterior and interior wood resulting in the rich natural tones of the wood shining under any light.
Represented in 1:76 scale, these coaches feature fully detailed interiors, an accurate representation of the teak wood panelling and metal wheels on each bogie.

Specification

Item Length - Without Packaging (cm): 24.6

Item Height - Without Packaging (cm): 5

Item Width - Without Packaging (cm): 3.5

Item Weight - Without Packaging: 0.15

Item Scale: 1:76 Scale 00 Gauge

Finish: Painted

Colour: Teak

Gauge: OO

Operator: LNER

Designer: Sir Nigel Gresley

Livery: LNER Teak

Minimum Curve (mm): Radius 2

Number of Parts: 1

Buffer Type: Sprung Metal Buffers

Coupling Type: NEM Tension Lock

SDS Models PL011 HO VR BPL Coach VR 12BPL Smooth Side

52.00 $

The original Austrains PL series of carriages have been upgraded. The Austrains NEO series are based around the same 59'9" design as the original models.

We've retooled the sides to reflect another style of doorway synonymous to this type of carriage, the sliding door. At the same time we took the opportunity to remove the faux raised screw heads of the original model along the raised beading and letter board area of the car body.

We have also improved the dimensionally accuracy of the roof mounted torpedo ventilators, made some small changes to the appearance of the bogies and improved the interior seat representation.

Lastly, we have introduced an additional width underframe, with centered handbrake wheel position. This provides us with a opportunity to model specific car numbers that match the prototype and offer all new car numbers. Three distinct eras of operation are offered, all with specific annotations on the car sides.

The APL and BCPL cars use the original 8'0" wide style underframe and the BPL cars ride on a new 7'6" style of underframe with centered handbrake wheel.

Hornby R40160 OO BR Mk4 Standard/Kitchen Coach H

40.00 $

Built at Metro-Cammell's Washwood Heath factory, 314 Mk4 coaches were produced between 1989 and 1992. They were built specifically for use on the newly electrified East Coast Main Line, along with hopes that a second order for the West Coast Main Line would be placed at a later date, although this second order never transpired. Mk4 coaches featured many improvements over the Mk3s such as push-button operated plug-type doors, fully sealed gangways and a designed top speed of 140mph. Much of the Mk4 design was based upon the Advanced Passenger Train. In particular, Mk4 coaches feature sides profiled to allow a tilt of up to 6° with newly fitted tilting bogies.

Mk4ss entered service in 1989 and helped drive a significant increase in passenger traffic. With privatisation in 1996, all Mk4 coaches were sold to Evershot Rail Group who have since leased them out to the holder of the InterCity East Coast Franchise. The franchise was initially awarded to Great North Eastern Railway (GNER) and has since been operated by National Express East Coast, East Coast, Virgin Trains East Coast and London North Eastern Railway (LNER) owned by the Department for Transport.

Between October 2003 and November 2005 Bombardier Transportation, under contract from GNER, commenced refurbishment of the Mk4 stock, fitting new seating arrangements and introduced onboard Wi-Fi, a first for British rail services. This refurbishment programme was called 'Project Mallard' named after the Mallard steam locomotive, built in the 1930s by the London & North Eastern Railway and holder of the world speed record for steam locomotives.

Although Mk4 coaches have spent most of their lives on the ECML, there are plans to cascade them down to other lines due to the introduction of the Class 800 and Class 801 IEPs.

Specification

Item Length - Without Packaging (cm): 33

Item Height - Without Packaging (cm): 5

Item Width - Without Packaging (cm): 3.5

Item Weight - Without Packaging: 0.2

Item Scale: 1:76 Scale 00 Gauge

Finish: Painted

License: No

Colour: Grey

Gauge: OO

Operator: BR

Designer: Met Cam

Livery: BR

Minimum Curve (mm): Radius 2

Number of Parts: 1

Hornby R40124 OO BR 6 Wheel Coach 3rd Class Fitted Lights E31070

38.00 $

This six wheeled coach is a representation of the many small coaches which survived into British Railway ownership.

Small coaches such as this six wheeled coach proved especially good at branch line work where their small size enabled the traversing of tight radius curves, whilst lower passenger numbers meant their small size was more acceptable and enabled trains to be hauled by smaller engines.

This BR coach is modelled as having step boards to enable access at stations with low platforms and electric lighting.

This model also features our new Maglight system which allows coach lights to be turned on and off using a magnetic wand, removing the need for track pick-ups which would increase rolling resistance.

Specifications

Item Length - Without Packaging (cm): 16

Item Height - Without Packaging (cm): 5

Item Width - Without Packaging (cm): 3.5

Item Weight - Without Packaging: 0.07

Item Scale: 1:76 Scale 00 Gauge

License: No

Finish: Painted

Colour: Red

Gauge: OO

Operator: BR

Designer: BR

Livery: BR

Minimum Curve (mm): Radius 2

Number of Parts: 1
