<p>The first practice session ran without incident and ended with Max Verstappen fastest for Red Bull, ahead of the Mercedes of Valtteri Bottas and the McLaren of Lando Norris. The second practice session ended with Verstappen again fastest, ahead of Norris and Lewis Hamilton. Kimi Räikkönen hit the barriers at turn 3. <p>The Sandown 500 Retro Round is fast becoming a fan favourite event on the Supercars calendar with teams up and down pit lane celebrating the history of the sport with retro inspired liveries, team uniforms and more.<br><br>Freightliner Racing’s 2016 retro inspired livery was a unique take on an iconic car. The inspiration behind the livery was the Holden Dealer Teams’ 1968 Holden HK Monaro GTS 327 driven to 2nd place at the Bathurst 500 by Jim Palmer and Phil West - albeit in a different colour scheme. Perhaps the most retro feature on this livery was the use of Freightliner’s vintage ‘boomerang’ logo which certainly completed the livery really nicely.<br><br>Other than the wide selection of interesting retro liveries, the 2016 running of the Sandown 500 will perhaps be remembered most for the huge crash suffered by GRM’s James Golding on the opening lap which resulted in a safety car and eventually a red flag in order to make repairs to the tyre barrier such was the huge impact of the incident. After qualifying in 8th, Ash Walsh had a blinding start moving the #14 Commodore up to as high as 3rd place. <p>Minichamps 1:43 diecast model of the #1 Red Bull RB20 as driven by Max Verstappen in the 2024 Las Vegas Grand Prix. Verstappen certainly hit the ground running at the beginning of the 2024 Formula One world championship, winning seven of the first 10 races. A fourth world title seemed a foregone conclusion, with it only remaining to be seen how many more records he would break. However, the Dutchman would then go the next 10 races without taking a single grand prix victory, with the Sprint Race at Austin his only success. This coincided with a resurgence from McLaren, Lando Norris taking great chunks out of the Red Bull man’s points lead. On the morning of the Brazilian Grand Prix, Max really seemed to be in trouble, lining up 17th on the grid while his key title rival was in pole position. It looked like the battle for the championship was about to be blown wide open. Heavy rain arrived on race day, though, and Verstappen took a dominant win, one of his best, while Norris struggled across the line in sixth place. Suddenly Max was all but assured of the title, and a steady run to fifth place in Las Vegas was enough to wrap up his fourth Formula One world championship; all of them scored consecutively.<br></p>

<p>In 2022, Jack Perkins donned an awesome retro livery on his Holden VF Commodore when he raced at the Dunlop Super2 Series Sandown round and in 2023 he backed it up again, with a livery some may argue was even better!</p> <p>Now racing a ZB Commodore, Jack was once again acknowledging the successful career of his father, Larry Perkins, in an impressive way, this time celebrating the 30th anniversary of the 1993 Bathurst 1000 win enjoyed by Larry and the late Gregg Hansford.</p> <p>Featuring the iconic white, black, red and green Castrol livery with the sharp stripes flowing down the doors, the 2023 version was backed by Shaw and Partners again as they had done the previous year.</p> <p>In an odd twist, Larry’s famous number 11 was featured on the doors and roof in acknowledgement of the livery it was paying tribute to, however the car was entered as #70 with the corresponding numbers on the windows.
