Hornby R3816 O Gauge 2710 CR No.1 Centenary Year Limited Edition 1920 Locomotive

241.00 $

With the Great War over and German toy trains not being imported due to the bitterness towards the vanquished, Frank Hornby saw an opportunity to expand his manufacturing business into the production of toy trains and consequently in 1920 he launched Hornby Trains.

Frank Hornby’s first British made Hornby ‘0’ gauge locomotives were produced in tinplate and assembled using nuts and bolts at the Meccano Ltd. factory situated in Binns Road, Liverpool. The first locomotive design of this construction was a simple generic style 0-4-0 locomotive using a clockwork mechanism and connected to a simple 4 wheel tender.

The No.1 0-4-0 Hornby ‘0’ Gauge locomotive design featured cylinders and connecting rods, plus brass handrail knobs. Also, all variants were fitted with cylinders with the bodies having an enamelled finish.

Inspired by the railway companies of the day, the first four tinplate ‘0’ gauge Hornby Trains locomotives produced respectively in 1920 were liveried in Midland Railway (MR) Maroon, London North Western Railway (LNWR) Black, Caledonian Railway (CR) Blue and Great Northern (GN) Green. These locomotives continued to be produced until 1923.

The four liveried Hornby Train replicas, using where possible the original Frank Hornby design have been produced as close to the original model specifications as possible but in place of a clockwork mechanism a 12vDC electric motor has been fitted allowing for three rail operation.

A Collector's Piece

Only 100 of these '0' Gauge highly collectable but functioning limited edition models have been exclusively produced in four liveries, reminiscent of the original tinplate locomotive produced by Frank Hornby in 1920, with each model authenticated by an individually signed and numbered certificate.

Collectors who order more than one design of these limited-edition products will receive the matching certificate number for each item making these an extra special addition to your highly exclusive collection. Serious collectors would be proud to own all four of these amazing collector pieces.

On Track Models HO 8202 Pacific National 82 Class Locomotive DCC Sound

187.00 $

Early History of the 82 Class

March 23rd, 1994 heralded a new era in freight rail operations in Australia. On this day, Clyde Engineering in association with General Motors EMD released the first of fifty eight ‘82' Class locomotives from Clyde’s Mittagong plant.

These locomotives along with their imported cousins, the EMD Canadian built 90 class, marked a new beginning in the way a locomotive fleet was operated and maintained.

Whilst these locomotives were operated by Freight Rail (a business unit of State Rail), they are actually supplied and serviced by Clyde at their Kooragang Island maintenance facility. This leasing arrangement was known as ‘Ready Power’

Under the terms of this contract, Clyde would be responsible for the overall up keep and maintenance of these units for a period of fifteen years. Although minor servicing and provisioning was undertaken by Freight Rail, major servicing and repairs was completed by Clyde.

With the introduction of these locomotives a wide spread reduction of the NSW locomotive fleet had begun. The first casualties were the veteran fleet of 44 class Alco’s, then the 45 and 442 classes along with the Mark I 48 class. Further reductions to the locomotive occurred with the withdrawals of the 422 and 49 classes.

This overall fleet reduction reduced the average age of Freight Rail’s locomotive fleet from over twenty five year old to approximately ten.

These locomotives have travelled all over NSW and have ventured into Queensland and Victoria on intermodal freight services, and in South Australia on the Leigh Creek coal service. They are currently seen on both coal and wheat services all over the state, through Sydney, and the occasional local trip train around the Sydney metropolitan area.

On Track Models is pleased bring you this highly desired locomotive as a highly detailed model in HO Scale.

82 Class Improvements:

ESU designed PCB with two sugar cube speakers

Independent working headlights, white and red marker lights (DCC only)

See through Dynamic blower housing with box

Improved one-piece MU cables

Improved air hoses

Improved axles bushes for better electrical pick up

Factory Painted & Decorated in new PN livery

82 Class Model Locomotive Standard Features:

Ready-to-Run

Scale AMRA Profile Metal Wheels

All wheel drive - All wheel pick up

18" Recommended minimum radius

Highly detailed bogies with separately applied parts

Easy access to the DCC 21 pin plug

Easy body removal

Quality 5 pole skew wound motor

Die cast metal chassis with recesses for twin speakers

Twin brass flywheels

Etched metal detail parts

Separately applied metal parts

Genuine Kadee Metal Couplers

Detailed cab interrior

Operational headlights, foglights, & marker lights

Compatible with Code 70, 83, & 100 Rail

Accurate Paint Schemes & Printing

Factory Painted & Decorated

Photos shown are representative of the finished model. Hornby R30281 OO LMS Class 8F 2-8-0 No. 8310 Era 3 Locomotive

173.00 $

The Stanier designed LMS Class 8F was many things, it was one of the most widespread 2-8-0 locomotive ever used in Britain, it was a war hero, an expat, but maybe more importantly it was a dependable servant of the freight industry. 852 examples of the class were built over an eleven years of construction with an example being built in almost every locomotive works around the UK.

This is quite unusual as a competing rail company would not wish to allocate valuable shed time to a competitors locomotive however the locomotive was chosen by the war department to be the standard freight engine of the war effort. This led to their construction on every part of the UK network, as at a time of war even the fiercest national competitors would need to put their differences aside to work towards the common goal of peace.

Examples of the 8F locomotive could, at their geographical peak, could be found in the UK as well as Italy, Turkey, Iran, Palestine, Israel and Egypt. 225 examples would find themselves in service overseas initially in Egypt and Iran before those locomotives were disseminated around the Middle East and parts of Europe as and where demand dictated. Most of these locomotives would not return to the UK and would continue to be used in revenue earning service well after the withdrawal of steam on the UK network.

Overseas examples would go on to be withdrawn in the 1970s and 80s, with most examples being scrapped. Back home in the UK, the last examples would be withdrawn at the end of steam on BR in 1968, a large number have been preserved. Two Class 8Fs represent a rare sight in the world of diving, going down with the SS Thistlegrom.

These locomotives are clearly visible on the seafloor with the ship, becoming a major tourist attraction in recent years. Locomotive 8310 was outshopped into LMS service in December of 1943, too late to enter war service as the stock shipped overseas ceased in January of 1942. The locomotive would be in service for 24 years before being withdrawn on the 30th December 1967.

The locomotive would then be stored for a short while before being scrapped before the end of the following year after a fairly unremarkable yet devoted service life. The 8F model is presented in its imposing black livery, perhaps more understated than its prowess would deserve. The model is fitted with tender pickups as well as an 21 pin DCC socket allowing the model to be operated on a digital layout if required.

Specification

Item Length - Without Packaging (cm): 25

Item Height - Without Packaging (cm): 5

Item Width - Without Packaging (cm): 3.5

Item Weight - Without Packaging: 0.4

Item Scale: 1:76 Scale 00 Gauge

Finish: Painted

Colour: Black

Gauge: OO

DCC Status: DCC Ready 21 pin socket

Operator: LMS

Designer:William Stanier

Wheel Configuration: 2-8-0

Livery: LMS Black

Minimum Curve (mm): Radius 2

Motor: 5 Pole Skew wound

Number of Parts: 1

Class: 8F Class

Buffer Type: Sprung Metal Buffers

Coupling Type: NEM Tension Lock
