While the PzKpfw IV could still be used to advantage, the PzKpfw V [Panther] proved ill adapted to the terrain. The Sherman because of its maneuverability and height was good [the Panther was] poorly suited for hedgerow terrain because of its width. Long gun barrel and width of tank reduce maneuverability in village and forest fighting. It is very front-heavy and therefore quickly wears out the front final drives, made of low-grade steel. High silhouette. Very sensitive power-train requiring well-trained drivers. Weak side armor; tank top vulnerable to fighter-bombers.

Academy 13254 1/35 IDF M-51 Super Sherman

The M50 / M51 Super Sherman (also known as Isherman or M1) was an Israeli tank from the post-war period. The first vehicles of this type were ready for service in 1956. The drive was initially provided by a single Continental R-975 engine with a power of up to 450 HP, and later - a Cummins V-8 engine with a power of 460 HP. The armament of the vehicle consisted - in the M50 version - of a single 105mm GIAT CN L44 cannon, two 7.62 or 12.7 mm machine guns and a 52 or 60 mm mortar.

Super Sherman tanks were designed for the needs of the Israeli armed forces as a response to the appearance of the T-54 and T-55 tanks in the arsenals of the Arab states. The new tanks were very far-reaching upgrades to the M4A4 Sherman vehicles already owned by Israel. In the first phase of the modernization (from 1956-1964), these tanks received a new suspension (instead of the VVSS - HVSS type), new power units and, above all, a completely new turret with a 105mm gun. This is how the M50 Super Sherman cars were created. However, already in the 1960s, a version of the M51 Super Sherman appeared - very similar to the previous one, but with the French 105 mm F1 models, with an unusual muzzle brake at the end of the barrel, and a new SKO (fire control system). The Super Sherman cars were baptized in 1964 and took part in the Six-Day War (1967) and the Yom-Kippur War (1973). At the end of the 1980s, around 150 vehicles of this type were sold to Chile. Recently, the Super Sherman was in active service with the Israeli army until the end of the 1990s!

Unimodel 1/72 M7 Kangaroo Armored Troop-carrier

The Kangaroo was a Canadian tracked armored personnel carrier from the Second World War. The first prototypes of the car were built in 1943, and serial production was carried out in 1944-1945. More than 600 vehicles of this type were created in the course of production. The car was powered by a single engine Continental R-975 with 405 HP. The total length of the cart was about 5.8 meters, with a width of 2.8 meters. The armament consisted of a single 7.62 mm Browning M1919 machine gun.

A series of cars Kangaroo was developed by an officer of the Canadian army - General Guy Simonds. Vehicles of this type were created by converting the M4 Sherman and Ram ora M7 Priest self-propelled guns to the role of armored personnel carriers. The main changes concerned the disassembly of the main armament, as well as - in the case of tanks - the removal of the turrets. As a result, great armored personnel carriers, capable of carrying 8 to 10 soldiers, were created in a very simple way. What's more, they had the same armor and mobility as the tanks or self-propelled guns from which they were rebuilt, which greatly influenced the possibility of combined operations. Kangaroo wagons were baptized into combat during Operation Totalize in August 1944 in Normandy. They were used in combat both in North-Western Europe in 1944-1945, as well as in Italy in the same years. Vehicles of this type also served in the British Army.
