<p>The Rooikat is a wheeled armoured fighting vehicle built in South Africa for the South African Army. It was designed for combat reconnaissance and seek and destroy operations. Its secondary roles include combat support, anti-armour and anti-guerrilla operations. The Rooikat is intended for deep penetration missions, so the wheeled design was needed for speed and to counter sandy desert conditions that might slow tracked vehicles. </p>

<p>Delays in the production of the first German main battle tanks led to the use of the Panzerkampfwagen II. After successful deployments in Poland and France at the beginning of World War II, it was also used in Russia and North Africa, although it was now inferior to the enemy tanks. <p>The LAV-25 had a two-person, power-operated turret armed with an M242 25mm automatic cannon called the Chain Gun, and two 7.62mm M240 machine guns. While there is room in the rear hull compartment of the LAV-25 for up to six infantrymen, the Marines eventually decided to use the vehicle as a reconnaissance asset instead of an armored personnel carrier.
