For the 1970 Bathurst race it was the first time drivers could nominate to drive the entire race distance without a co-driver. The number one driver was Allan Moffat who was to drive solo, as allowed by the new rules.

Moffat was the fastest in qualifying with a lap time of 2m 49.3s - good enough for pole position for Sunday’s race. When the starter’s flag dropped, it was Allan Moffat in first position going up Mountain Straight. At the end of Conrod Straight, Colin Bond’s XU-1 Torana outbraked the GT-HO of Moffat and went into the lead. Moffat would regain the lead on lap five. After the first round of pit stops, Moffat was in the lead and by the second round of pit stops he was still leading. Nearing the end of the race, Bruce McPhee was closing in on Moffat who was slowing, but could only hope for second position. Moffat was to greet the chequered flag in first outright position, after 130 laps, to become the first driver to win the event without a co-driver.

Classic Carlectables 18713 1/18 Holden VH Commodore 1983 Bathurst (French/Morris)

The 1983 James Hardie 1000 was an endurance race for Touring Cars that complied with CAMS Group C regulations. It was also Round 4 of the 1983 Australian Endurance Championship. The Holden Dealer Team took a controversial, but legal victory with the team’s second Holden VH Commodore driven by John Harvey, Peter Brock and Larry Perkins. The Holder Dealer Team Commodore finished a lap ahead of Allan Moffat and his Japanese team mate Yoshimi Katayama in their Mazda RX-7. Making the top 10 on Friday was a victory in itself for the #4 VH Commodore of Bob Morris and Rusty French. The car was originally listed for French and Alan Browne, but Browne stepped down to give the car to Morris, who didnt have a drive. Morris took the first stint and after 15 laps they were in 4th position. By their first pitstop on lap 40 they were in the lead. But Morris was very eager to hand over the driving to French, as Morris had come down with a illness mid-race and was physically sick in his helmet. Morris was still sick for his second race stint, but battled on. The car finished the race in a very respectable 8th position.

Item includes certificate and production number plate, mounted to the chassis.

Classic Carlectables 18664 1/18 Holden HJ GTS Monaro Jamaica Lime

Following on from the success of the HQ and with an influx of European models entering the market, Australians were presented with a wider range of choices. The Monaro received a heavy face lift to satisfy a more demanding buyer. Introduced in October 1974, the HJ Monaro GTS, with its new facelift, optional front and rear spoilers, offered extra comfort, a comprehensive sports instrument panel of its own and greater emphasis on body detailing to further distinguish it from other models. Beefier HJ styling was matched by extra-strength bumpers. The HJ Monaro upgrade was more imposing than its predecessor and the GTS featured a prominent, blacked-out grille, bigger wrap-around rear lights, more aggressive side vents and decals. Full foam high-backed seats came in a variety of trims and colours.

The GTS instrument panel featured multiple ventilation outlets and clear recessed instruments with international symbols.
The first factory front and rear spoiler options gave the HJ GTS real presence, the deep rear spoiler and new tail lights in particular bolstering its sloping boot line. As the imported Chevrolet 350 was de-tuned to meet US anti-pollution legislation, it no longer made sense as a premium performance option. Instead, Holden boosted the compression ratio of the local 308 to close the performance gap. The HJ has proved to be a popular favourite amongst the Holden Monaro range.
