Classic Carlectables 18758 1/18 Holden HR Premier Hacienda Blue Metallic

With diminishing sales of the HD, Holden’s response was the HR. Although the body changes looked mild, they involved reworking the roof line and changing almost all the exterior panels to give a sleeker, more modern profile. A new grille with squared–off headlight surrounds at the front and ‘tower type’ lights at the rear only added to the looks, it proved very successful and made the HR one of the biggest–selling Holdens of all. Compared to 178,927 for the HD and 252,352 for the HR (produced until January 1968.) This lifted sales of the HR Holden to the level that Holden received from then popular EH Holden which
had sold 256,959 vehicles. As well as styling changes, the Holden’s performance was improved by virtue of an enlarged version of the ‘red engine’ with higher compression ratios. The 179 was enlarged to become the very popular 186. Other HR changes included a slightly widened track and a wider rear windscreen. While the Special was the most common type of HR, the Premier was the top of the line and it had plusher cabin trimmings, including a wood grain finish (artificial), body trim included stainless steel around the wheel arches, along the boot between the tail lights and stone guards. There were many options for the HR, like power steering, front–wheel disc brakes, a limited–slip differential and yet more with the Nasco accessories like sill chrome mouldings, wheel trim rings, side mirror, radio, aerial, hood ornament were available.
Six months after the launch, all HRs were given a safety upgrade with the addition of front seat belts, windscreen washers, reverse lights, sun visors and a shatterproof interior rear–vision mirror. The fitting of seat belts as standard was the forerunner of many significant safety–related features pioneered by Holden in Australia.
To some the HR lacked get-up-and-go – the anticipation of the all new engines not producing the expected performance machines many lusted after. In 186 Premier Powerglide guise it had a top speed of around 88 miles per hour, and would do the standing quarter in 19.2sec. These figures were respectable rather than breathtaking. While the HR may not have been a street brawler, it would cruise effortlessly at 80 mph and it would do it while instilling confidence in the driver. Anyone who had driven the HD at similar speeds knew the HR was way in front, being much more sure footed. It may not have had the taut ride found on some European sedans, but it did corner with more comfort and confidence than its predecessor. Its popularity then means that today it still remains one of the most popular old Holdens for enthusiasts.

The 2018 Bathurst 1000 was the last time the iconic Ford Falcon nameplate would be raced in the Great Race at Mount Panorama and there was no shortage of tributes as the FGX prepared for the nameplate’s final bid for Bathurst 1000 glory.
Tickford Racing’s #56 RABBLE.club entry for Richie Stanaway and Steve Owen was one of the cars paying tribute.

Their striking blue Falcon bore the words “Falcon’s final flight, Mount Panorama” over a stylised version of the bird of prey, a feature of the team’s cars throughout its Ford Performance Racing era, a look many fans of the ‘blue oval’ loved over the years.

“It’s a small tribute to a car which obviously we have quite a history with,” team principal Tim Edwards said at the time.

“Every win we’ve ever had has, of course, been with the Falcon, so it’s a bittersweet farewell as we look to next year, but we’d definitely like to give it a proper send off in its last Bathurst 1000.”

Unfortunately the fairytale result wasn’t to be for the #56 Falcon but no-one can deny it was a fantastic tribute and will make yet another significant model for Tickford and Ford fans to have in their collections.

Don’t miss this model which has been produced by Authentic Collectables in high quality die-cast with detailed interior and features opening parts including the bonnet and all four doors in a limited edition of 204 with an individually numbered Certificate of Authenticity.

Kyosho 8953SBL 1/18 Austin Healey Sprite - Speedwell Blue Diecast Car

The Sprite entered the Austin Healey line-up in 1958 as the entry sports car model developed by BMC (British Motor Corporation) which existed from 1952 to 1966. Conceived as a small sports car for mass appeal, the minimalist engine and undercarriage were designed to keep costs down. Weight reduction was also a focus, and the Sprite adopted the world’s first semi-monocoque open body. While the 948cc inline 4-cylinder engine output was only 43ps, this was sufficient power for the 600kg vehicle weight (less than modern ‘light vehicles’), which was the highest power to weight in its class at the time. Combined with the rack and pinion steering gearbox, the highly responsive Sprite reaffirmed the pure joy of driving with a lightweight sports car. Produced from 1958 to 1960, the Mk 1 was the most popular model in the series, which was in production for 13 years through to 1971. The Mk 1 not only embodies the elements of the initial development concept of only incorporating parts necessary for driving performance, but also features a distinctive front mask with headlights protruding from the bonnet hood that appealed to many. This feature earned the Mk 1 nicknames such as ‘crab eyes’ in Japan, ‘frog-eye’ in England, and ‘bug-eye’ in the United States.
