Valom 14420 1/144 Nieuport 11 vs. Fokker E.III (2+2 in 1)

$

During the course of the Battle of Verdun in February 1916, the combination of the Nieuport 11s technical advantages and its concentration in dedicated fighter units allowed the French to establish air superiority, ending the so-called "Fokker Scourge" and forcing radical changes in German tactics. The impact of the Nieuport was so dramatic that in mid to late 1916 several captured examples were repaired, rearmed with a synchronised "Spandau" gun, and flown at the front. One of these was N1324, briefly flown by Kurt Student in August 1916

The Helmore/GEC Turbinlite was a 2,700 million candela (2.7 Gcd) searchlight fitted in the nose of a number of British Douglas Havoc night fighters during the early part of the Second World War and around the time of The Blitz. The Havoc was guided to enemy aircraft by ground radar and its own radar. The searchlight would then be used to illuminate attacking enemy bombers for defending fighters accompanying the Havoc to shoot down. In practice the Turbinlite was not a success and the introduction of higher performance night fighters with their own radar meant they were withdrawn from service in early 1943.

The McDonnell Douglas F-4 Phantom II is an iconic jet fighter which first flew for the USA in 1958. In Japan, it was introduced into the Air Self-Defense Force, and manufactured and licensed as the F-4EJ. F-4EJ Kai was the designation applied to existing Japanese-built F-4EJ fighters that were upgraded in a modernisation program initiated in July of 1984 by Mitsubishi Heavy Industries, with the objective of updating JASDF F-4Es to standards appropriate for the 1990s and beyond.

The JASDF boasts F-4 squadrons that trace histories back over decades; some F-4EJ Phantom squadrons have been celebrating decades since the start of their operations, and 2020 marks a landmark as these warbirds are slowly retired, resulting in fantastic, colourful markings commemorating over 40 years of sterling service.

Following the popularity of the SWS 1/48 F-4E (Early), the JASDF's F-4EJ Kai Phantom II is finally here in a special limited edition release, exclusively released by Zoukei-Mura to celebrate one of the country's most famous jet fighters.
