Oxford 87SC50001 1/87 1950 Studebaker Champion Starlight Coupe Tulip Cream

9.00 $

Studebaker joins the Oxford 1:87 scale series with a 1950s version of a car that had been launched in 1939, was halted in 1942 and and re-emerged after the war, going on until the mid 1950s. We are pleased to introduce the Studebaker Champion Starlight Coupé as it hit the road in 1950.

Its background had been chequered with Studebaker in receivership in 1933 but revitalised by the time their new Champion branded model was launched in 1939. Produced by the Studebaker Corporation of South Bend, Indiana, the brand lasted until 1958 and was popular because of its low price, durable engine and styling. It proved an outstanding success. Moving on, in 1946, Studebaker announced an all-new design by two designers at the forefront of the industry, Virgil Exner and Raymond Loewy, who had already been responsible for the existing Champion ponton styling. The sensational new Studebakers featured a straight-through front wing line, lowered bonnets and in the case of the Starlight Coupé, an astonishing wrap-around rear ‘greenhouse’ window. In 1950, the company introduced another revolutionary style – the ‘Bullet Nose’ Studebaker that had clearly been influenced by the ‘Jet Age’ aircraft of the era. This version of the Champion comprised a three-window coupé powered by the 1696cu in (2.8 litre) 85bhp side valve six-cylinder engine with a column shift manual transmission. The Studebaker Champion Starlight Coupé was born.

In a pale cream colour scheme on a black chassis and a grey-beige interior with black dashboard and steering wheel. The external trim is mainly silver with black and silver grille intakes with chrome surround. The elaborate bullet nose is also silver and black as is the bonnet emblem. Note too, the colourful Studebaker badge and the Champion name on the central edge of the bonnet. Whitewall tyres with chrome hub caps complete the picture. Our model is registered NY 50 2B78.90.

Very different, we think you’ll agree.

Oxford 76CFV001 1/76 Bedford CF Van Gunn JCB

9.00 $

The Bedford CF is a small commercial van, a vehicle first introduced by Bedford – a subsidiary of Vauxhall - in 1969. It succeeded the ubiquitous Bedford CA van and was seen as a competitor to rival Ford’s Transit van. It was the last vehicle to be designed solely by Vauxhall and was discontinued in 1986. During its day, its versatility made it one of the most popular light commercials of the day and it was equally sought after as the template for a caravanette, notably the Bedford Dormobile. It came with longitudinal front engine and rear wheel drive and transmission of 2/4/5 manual to a 3-speed General Moors automatic. In 1980, a CF facelift introduced a 2.3L diesel engine as an alternative to the petrol engine.

Founded in 1890 by the Gunn brothers, Gunn JCB was to become one of the first JCB dealers in 1958. The family-owned company has dealerships at six strategically placed depots in the UK with its headquarters in Altrincham and branches across the Marches, the Isle of Man and Preston in Lancashire. It is now one of the largest and successful dealers worldwide. Offering both new and used quality JCB machinery, it also prides itself on service support and the supply of consumable products, namely the accessories needed for the vehicles offered. And this is where our little van comes in.

Our model of the Bedford CF van as used by Gunn JCB is registered BBA 712T from 1978, pre face-lift. Decorated with white upper body and roof with yellow lower half, the red and print detail, complete with contact details and the signature JCB logo, tells us it is delivering parts from its central parts depot in Altrincham. Exterior trim is finished in silver whilst the inside is black. The van design includes double back doors as well as the driver and passenger cab doors. The Gunn name also features across the front of the bonnet above the famous Vauxhall Griffin badge.
