“Queen of the Desert”

The Matilda was developed as a heavily armored infantry tank and was the British Army's main tank in North Africa during WWII. She swept aside Italian opponents and was respectfully called the “Queen of the Desert” by German forces. During Operation Battleaxe to lift the siege of Tobruk in June 1941, German forces famously used their 88mm AA guns in the anti-tank role as they were the only effective counter against Matildas which could be found. The Matilda has written her name into the history books as a highly effective tank which continually proved her worth during many fierce battles throughout North Africa.

Trumpeter 09592 1/35 Ukraine T-64BM Bulat Main Battle Tank

The T-64BM Bulat is a Ukrainian upgrade of the ageing Soviet T-64B main battle tank. Ukraine operates over 2 200 of the old T-64 Main Battle Tanks (MBTs). The Bulat was revealed in 1999. Initially two upgrade variants were proposed - the T-64BM (also referred as the T-64U) and the T-64BM2. The T-64BM2 was fitted with new automatic loader, however it had inferior fire control system. Eventually the more advanced T-64BM upgrade was selected. First vehicles were upgraded and delivered to Ukrainian Army units in 2005. In 2014 this MBT saw action during ongoing military conflict in Ukraine. It was widely used during this conflict. However recently all surviving T-64BM tanks were repaired and put to storage. For some reason Ukrainian military command decided not to use these tanks in conflict and rely on the ageing T-64BV tanks.

Protection was improved by installation of add-on passive and Explosive Reactive Armor (ERA). Composite armor is used at the front of the hull and turret. The T-64BM Bulat is fitted with Ukrainian Nozh modular ERA, which reportedly recommended itself well. Vehicle is fitted with NBC protection and automatic fire suppression systems.

The M36 tank destroyer, formally 90 mm Gun Motor Carriage, M36, was an American tank destroyer used during World War II. The M36 combined the hull of the M10 tank destroyer, which used the M4 Sherman's reliable chassis and drivetrain, combined with sloped armour. Conceived in 1943, the M36 first served in combat in Europe in October 1944, where it partially replaced the M10 tank destroyer.

However, when coming up against the heaviest tanks of the Wermarcht at the end of that year, the need for 90 mm gunned tank destroyers became urgent and during October-December 1944, 187 conversions of standard Medium Tank M4A3 hulls were produced by Grand Blanc Arsenal. These vehicles, designated M36B1, were rushed to the European Theater of Operations and used in combat alongside standard M36s.

Specifications

Academy 13511 1/35 ROK Army K2 Black Panther

The K2 Black Panther is a modern 3rd generation South Korean main battle tank manufactured by Hyundai Rotem. The first prototypes of the vehicle were made in 2004, and serial production started in 2013 continues to this day. The exact number of tanks produced is unknown. Estimates are about 100 tanks of this type in the line. The K2 is powered by the 1500hp MTU MT 883 engine. The vehicle is armed with a single 120mm tank gun, 1 7.62mm machine gun and 1 12.7mm machine gun.

Despite the fact that the modern K1 tank was introduced to the line in the early 1990s, the command of the South Korean army decided to develop a new tank that would complement, and eventually probably a successor to, the K1 vehicle. It was also decided to rely on the domestic arms industry as much as possible and use the help of foreign companies only as a last resort. What's more - the most advanced technology was chosen. As a result, the K2 tank has a very modern SKO (fire control system), an effective 120mm gun, very high mobility and maneuverability, and powerful armor that is a rare combination of composite and reactive armor of the ERA and NERA type. Undoubtedly, the K2 is a machine at least comparable to the western 3rd generation fronts, such as the Leopard 2 or the M1 Abrams. Contrary to them, however, like the French Leclerc, it uses an autoloader, which significantly increases the rate of fire and allowed to reduce the crew to 3 people. Due to the technological advancement, the unit cost of the K2 tank is estimated at approx. 8.5 million. dollars by 2014 prices. At the moment, K2 is not exported.

The Korean main battle tank Black Panther now get a model kit from Academy! It features precise molding of the various turret sensors, the ERA on the side skirt, and more, with double-pin connection type tracks and chrome seals for various sensor units.

The Oerlikon 20 mm cannon is a series of autocannons, based on an original German 20 mm Becker design that appeared very early in World War I. It was widely produced by Oerlikon Contraves and others, with various models employed by both Allied and Axis forces during World War II, and many versions still in use today.During World War I, the German Reinhold Becker developed a 20 mm caliber cannon, known now as the 20 mm Becker using the Advanced Primer Ignition blowback (API blowback) method of operation. This used a 20x70 RB cartridge and had a cyclic rate of fire of 300 rpm. It was used on a limited scale as an aircraft gun on Luftstreitkräfte warplanes, and an anti-aircraft gun towards the end of that war.

In addition to use in ships, boats and boat fleets on all theatres of war were used hundreds of home-made air defence installations and industry, installed on various types of trucks, armored personnel carriers and even Jeeps “willys”

The M3A1 (Medium) tank is one of the most extraordinary American tanks and one of the most unusual constructions in the history of the tank as such. This tank was created as a result of an experiment aimed at examining the possibility of making a homogeneous cast element of the upper part of the tank's hull.

Until now, that is until 1941, tank hulls were made of four (SOMUA S35) or two parts (Renault R35, Hothkiss H35) and tanks with armor of this type were produced only in France. The "experimental" M3A1 "Lee" tank allowed for the improvement of the tank armor casting technology, which was later used in mass production.

M4A1 "Sherman" tanks and made available to the Canadian RAM plants, which, based on the hull structure of the M3A1 "Lee" tank, soon built their "own" Canadian tank.
