<p>When Ford introduced the Bronco in 1965, off road racing was a logical way to promote the truck. So, in association with Bill Stroppe Racing, Broncos were entered into the Baja 500 and Mexican 1000 races. In 1971, after winning both of these events, Ford offered specially prepared Baja Broncos at selective dealers. Basic Broncos were built by Ford and then sent to the Bill Stroppe shop to be converted to the Baja Bronco.This included numerous modifications to the drive train and bodywork. The modified trucks were then shipped to the dealers.
