The Cessna A-37 Dragonfly was a US Army light twin-engine attack aircraft that served from 1963 to 1992. 577 were produced. It was used in combat, mainly during the Vietnam War. It was created as a response to the US military's demand for a COIN plane - a plane that fights enemy partisan units. The A-37 was powered by two General Eletric J85-GE-17A engines. A characteristic feature of the aircraft was the arrangement of the crew seats next to each other, unusual for this class of machines. One of the greatest advantages of the A-37 in relation to the type of missions performed was undoubtedly the ability to operate from very short, provisionally prepared, field runways. Since December 1994, the A-37 has also been in the service of the South Korean air acrobatics unit - Black Eagles. Technical data: Top speed: 816 km / h; climb speed 35.5 m / s, practical ceiling 12,730 m, maximum range: 1,480 km, armament: fixed - 1 km GAU2B / A, caliber 7.62 mm, suspended - up to 1230 kg.

The legendary U.S. Air Force P-51D Mustang originally used a Hamilton Standard propeller, but shortages forced the U.S. to fit some models with an Aeroproducts propeller. They were renamed the P-51K and mainly assigned to the Asian Theater. The P-51K and P-51D possessed both speed and the ability to fly long-range missions, and could serve as bomber escorts or attack enemy ground installations themselves. In addition to the fighter role, some P-51s were equipped with cameras and used as reconnaissance aircraft. Such aircraft were based on the P-51D and designated the F-6D.

Academy 12423 1/72 F-22A Air Dominance Fighter Raptor

The Lockheed F-22 Raptor is an American air superiority fighter with highly developed ground attack capabilities as well as electronic warfare and electronic watch. The F-22 was in April 1991 the winner of the competition announced by the USAAF for the Advanced Tactical Fighter, which dates back to 1981. It was then that a $ 12 billion program was launched and the construction of a highly maneuverable, indirectly controlled, Stealth fighter began. The US Navy joined the program in April 1986, hoping to build a successor to the F-14 Tomcat. Later that year, the Department of Defense announced that Lockheed and Northrop had advanced to the next stage. Each of the companies was to build a prototype, designated YF-22 and YF-23, respectively. From then on, Lockheed joined forces with Boeing and General Dynamics, which later resulted in the division of work on serial aircraft between the Boeing and Lockheed plants. The first prototype of the YF-22 was called 87-3997 / N22YF and was equipped with newly constructed General Electric YF120 engines. The flight of the plane took place on September 29, 1990. Shortly thereafter, on October 30, 1990, a second 87-3998 / N22YF prototype was flown, powered by an alternative Pratt-Whitney YF119 engine. After a careful comparison of the parameters with the competing YF-23 by the Northrop / McDonnell Douglas team, it was announced that the winner of the competition was the YF-22 with the YF119 engine. The design of the final version of the F-22A was frozen in March 1992. The differences compared to the prototype included an increase in the wingspan of a trapezoidal shape to 13.59 m, which, however, did not increase the wing surface, a reduction in the thickness of the wing profile at the root and its twisting, which ensured better controllability of the aircraft in terms of supersonic speeds. The area of the double vertical tail was also reduced to 27.2 m2. The Lockheed F-22 Raptor is one of the first, if not the only, fifth generation fighter in the world. Thanks to the use of a completely new power unit (two Pratt-Whitney F119-PW-100 engines with vector thrust) and low aerodynamic resistance, the speed of the F-22 - according to unofficial data - exceeds 2.4Ma. In addition, it is highly maneuverable, which allows you to perform such acrobatic figures as, for example, the Pugacheva cobra or Kulbit. Another important feature of the F-22 is the Stealth technology, however, based less than the F-117 on RAM, and more on the aerodynamic excellence, overall shape of the airframe and refined exterior details. The exact radar view (RCS), however, is still classified. It is also very important to use the highly innovative AN / APG-77 radar, thanks to which it is possible to detect objects from about 250 km. Moreover, this radar enables the F-22 to act as a "mini-AWACS" aircraft, which significantly increases the combat capabilities of the strike teams with this aircraft. AN / APG-77 can also be used to attack the enemy's electronic radar and overload his sensors. Production of the F-22 ended in 2011, with the production of 187 serial aircraft, with Lockheed obliged to maintain the production lines and facilities. Due to its technological advancement, the F-22 is not exported.

The Ki-61 Hien was the only liquid-cooled Japanese fighter plane that was used during the Pacific War. As a result of efforts to reduce air resistance and weight, it was completed as a well-balanced aircraft that maximized both speed and maneuverability , and was officially adopted in 1943.

However, the lack of basic industrial strength led to poor production, and
the malfunction of the Ha-40 liquid-cooled engine due to a lack of maintenance skills was a weakness of this machine.

Nevertheless, they achieved success in the Philippines, New Guinea, and in the air defense of the homeland. In particular, during the air defense of the homeland , they maintained a high operational rate thanks to
a stable supply of parts and the efforts of veteran maintenance personnel, and because they had better high-altitude performance than other Japanese aircraft, they fought bravely against the B-29s.

In particular, the 244th Air Squadron, led by the youngest squadron commander in the history of the Army, Captain Teruhiko Kobayashi, fought fiercely and shot down over 160 B-29s by the end of the war, making it the best unit in the history of the war.

Special Hobby 72201 1/72 Westland Whirlwind FB Mk.I Fighter-Bomber

Not long before the outbreak of WW2, the British Air Ministry issued a requirement calling for two types of fighter aircraft, one light weight with machine gun armament and the other one with heavy cannon armament. To these requirements, the machine gun armed Hurricanes and Spitfires were designed, while to fit the second category, the Westland offered their Whirlwind twin engined ‘Cannon Fighter’. This type was eventually produced in more than a hundred examples and further production was ceased only by the shortage of the Peregrine engines. The Whirlwinds were deployed over the English Channel in fighter and ground attack missions. For the latter ones, the Whirlwinds were fitted with bomb racks and were designated FB Mk.I. It was only in 1944 that they were replaced by Typhoon aircraft.

The Fighter-Bomber Whirlwind model comes on two styrene sprues and one with clear parts. All these are joined by 3D-printed parts, resin cast details and etches. The decals cater for four schemes, two of which in the earlier green-brown colours and the other two in the later scheme of green and grey, that are also corrected now compared to the earlier release, based on new available reference materials.
