The Mitsubishi F-1 is a support fighter for the Japan Air Self-Defense Force, developed from the trainer type T-2. As Japan's first domestically produced supersonic jet fighter, development began in 1972, and procurement began in 1975.
In the past, the F-86F was used as a support fighter, but
in order to operate a full-scale support fighter, the Japan Air Self-Defense Force
considered introducing the F-5E Tiger II, but decided on a fighter modification of the T-2 trainer, which was in operation at the time.

Development of the FS-T2 Kai (later the F-1) began, and for this purpose the mass-produced T-2 No. 106 and No. 107 were completed as special T-2 specifications for flight testing, and various system tests and flight tests were conducted.
Based on the results of these tests, the Director General of the Defense Agency approved the use of the aircraft by the unit on November 14, 1976, and
at the same time the official name was decided from FS-T2 Kai to the Support Fighter F-1. The F-1 was deployed starting in fiscal year 1977, and was deployed to the 3rd and 8th Squadrons at Misawa Air Base and the 6th Squadron at Tsuiki Air Base, replacing the F-86F.

The F-1 is a support fighter, but is also used as an interceptor fighter.
For this reason, it is equipped with a variety of weapons. For interception missions, it is equipped with Sidewinder air-to-air missiles, and for support combat, it is equipped with 500lb bombs, anti-ship missiles, 70mm or 127mm rockets, etc.

When the F-1 is modified from the T-2 to perform such a variety of missions,
the search and tracking radar is strengthened, a radio altimeter and atmospheric characteristic computer are added,
radar warning devices, strike cameras, etc. are installed,
and additional modifications such as mounting pylons for weapons are made.

Since the early days of powered flight, the aeroplane and the intrepid individuals who flew them have captivated the imagination of the world, the most impressive machines ever built by man flown by a talented few. Of all the many aircraft types which have taken to the skies, it is the single seat fighter which has provided the most fascination and in Britain, the Supermarine Spitfire has reigned supreme over the years. An aircraft regarded as the nation's saviour during its darkest hour and one which remained in service throughout the Second World War, the Spitfire is as famous today as it was when the first production fighter arrived at RAF Duxford back in August 1938.

The Mark Vc variant of the Spitfire may have been an interim development of Britain's famous fighter, rushed out to combat the latest version of its wartime adversary, the Messerschmitt Bf 109, however, it would prove so successful that it became the most heavily produced of all the Spitfire variants. An aircraft which allowed Fighter Command to go on the offensive, the Spitfire Mk.V would be operated by Allied squadrons all over the world and helped to establish the almost mythical reputation of this famous fighting aeroplane.

Bringing the history of the Royal Air Force right up to date, the latest high-tech single seat multi-role aircraft currently patrolling Britain's skies, the Lockheed Martin® F-35® Lightning is a highly advanced fifth-generation combat aircraft, one which is described as a technological quantum leap ahead of anything else currently in the skies. Although just at the start of its service career, can the F-35 hope to come close to matching the aviation reputation of the incomparable Spitfire?

Mikro-Mir 72-023 1/72 Mitsubishi J4M Senden

The Mitsubishi J4M was a reciprocal-propelled air defense fighter planned by the Japanese Navy from the early to mid-Pacific War.

In the prototype plan drafted in 1942, a maximum speed of 750km/h was requested, it needed to be able to reach an altitude of 8,000 meters in 10 minutes, and it would be armed with a 30mm machine gun, a pair of 20mm machine guns, and two bombs weighing 30kg each.

The single-engine twin body design was specifically created to be able to carry two bombs. It was planned to be equipped with the Ha-43 engine, which was under development at Mitsubishi; the engine would be cooled by an air intake installed at the rear of the fuselage. The horizontal stabilizer was also installed higher than the main wing to escape the airflow from the propeller. However, the engine's development was delayed; wind tunnel tests also proved that the horizontal stabilizer vibrated abnormally due to the propeller's wake, and so development of the J4M was discontinued in 1944.
