$

Brace yourself for a stealthily guarded FAA revelation!

A masterpiece of the skies, and now your Airfix workbench, the Supermarine Seafire returns to our range after a ten-year absence!

The XVII was the first of the Seafire variants to feature a cut-down rear fuselage and distinctive teardrop-style canopy. The aircraft could carry a heavier weapons load thanks to reinforced construction, with both fuel tanks and rockets under the wings. This plane flew on the frontline until the early 1950s when it downgraded to training duties.

The Navy’s answer to the ever-popular Spitfire, this masterpiece astounded the world with its unrivalled performance in the most demanding of conditions. It effortlessly operated from aircraft carriers, making it a formidable presence over land and sea. Folding wings allowed it to take off swiftly and land on the decks of naval vessels, extending its reach and influence over the ocean.

The awe-inspiring design ensured agility and speed, boasting sleek, aerodynamic contours radiating elegance and boosting manoeuvrability. This machine reached top speeds of approximately 378 miles per hour (608km/h), giving pilots an unyielding advantage.

Specifications

Zoukei Mura SWS4801 1/48 J7W1 Shinden
40.00
$

Developed by the Imperial Japanese Navy (IJN) as a short-range, land-based interceptor, the J7W was a response to Boeing B-29 Superfortress raids on the Japanese home islands. For interception missions, the J7W was to be armed with four forward-firing 30 mm type 5 cannons in the nose.

The Shinden was expected to be a highly maneuverable interceptor, but only two prototypes were finished before the end of war. A jet engine–powered version was considered, but never even reached the drawing board.

A perfection equal to the 1/32 kit!

Pay attention to Ha-43-42 fully reproduced in 1/48 scale!

The airframe and internal structure of the 1/32 Shinden have now been scaled down to 1/48. This has resulted not simply in reducing the size of parts from the larger kit, but a certain amount of combining and condensing the structure to cater for the smaller size. The engine is a particularly nice piece of tooling – you can see by the accompanying pictures that it is indistinguishable from the real thing without a very close inspection. SWS starts this new 1/48 series by offering the mystery, charm and power of the Shinden. But don't miss out – this kit is expected to sell out as quickly as the 1/32 version!

IL-78M is a Soviet Air Force aerial tanker converted to IL-76MD transport aircraft. The western code is MIDAS. As an alternative to low-efficiency aerial tankers converted from transport aircraft, development began in 1970. Completed in 1987 and began to deploy troops. The initial production model maintained its original performance as a transport aircraft, and loaded and unloaded fuel tanks for refueling in the cargo hold. The current body has fixed fuel tanks for refueling, and the amount of fuel loaded has also been increased. The air refueling is a 3-point refueling type: it is housed in the left side of the fuselage and the oil delivery holes at the ends of the two wings, as well as the refueling control tube and extraction. Cannon seats and refueling operator seats are replaced.

It was 1939, at the request of TWA, that the Constellation project was launched. This company wanted a 40-seater air-liner. The prototype took off on its maiden flight on the 9th January 1943 but, because of the war, the Constellation began its career under a military denomination - that of C-69 - and it equipped the AIR TRANSPORT COMMAND of the US Air Force. After the war, the two first civilian clients were TWA and Pan American. The latter company was the first to fly the Constellation on the New-York-Bermuda route. T.W.A., for its part, inaugurated on February 6, 1947 the first link between the United States and Europe.

Airfix 55013 1/72 North American P-51D Mustang Starter Set

The P-51D was arguably the definitive variant of the North American Mustang and included several significant improvements to the aircraft’s already successful design. These included a new bubble canopy for greater pilot visibility, the introduction of an effective new K-14 gunsight, even greater firepower, improvements to the ammunition feed system to reduce jamming and the availability of lightweight external fuel tanks, to further extend the fighter's range. The Mustang made a significant contribution to the eventual Allied victory in Europe, destroying more enemy aircraft in air-to-air combat than any other USAAF fighter in the European Theatre.

Specifications
